French Chocolate Cake/ Brownies in 4 Easy Steps


This deliciously luscious but amazingly simple to make chocolate recipe comes from France. It won the hearts of my daughter and her three school friends while they were staying with French families while attending a local French language school. One of the French mothers invited all the girls to her house and cooked them dinner and baked them a rich chocolate cake, the taste of which lingered in their tastebud memories for many months!
The mixture is amazingly versatile as it can be baked in a deep round or square cake tin or it can be baked in a large rectangular cake tin and cut into 12 to 16 brownies! You can halve the mixture to serve 6 to 8 portions. French Chocolate Cake is a great Birthday or party bake!

1 Melt 300g dark chocolate at least 70%cocoa content
300g butter Together in a bain marie or bowl placed over a pot of Simmering warm water. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.

2. Beat 5 eggs and 430g castor sugar together with 3 drops of vanilla extract in a large bowl.

3 Add the melted chocolate and butter to the beaten egg mixture.

4 Sift 200g of self-raising flour into the mixture in the bowl.

Bake at 190 C for 30 mins in a large rectangular deep tin 28 cm x 34 cm approx for 12- 16 brownies or portions or
Bake in a 22cm square / round cake tin if you halve the mixture for 6-8 portions.
A great party cake or melt in the mouth Brownies to share with family or friends! Enjoy! indulge!



Bake in large rectangular deep cake tin or roasting tin lined with greaseproof paper.
